EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - A group of Oak Grove Middle school students stumbled across a dead man with a gunshot wound to his head on a Thursday field trip in Eden Prairie, Minn.
Just before 10 a.m., the group of eighth graders was traversing the Richard T. Anderson Conservation Area in Eden Prairie when students found the deceased man on a wooded trail. Nearly 30 children and a teacher were in the group that came upon the body.
The head wound is likely self-inflicted, said Eden Prairie Police. The weapon used was recovered from scene. The teacher called police and evacuated students from the area.
The field trip was then cancelled, and students – 125 in all — were taken back to school. Grief counselors were available to students. Parents of the student witnesses were notified of the findings.
The students on the field trip were participating in various different activities throughout the conservation area as part of a science orienteering class.
Too bad it wasn’t a biology unit, or they could’ve gotten extra credit.
Oak Grove is where the boss works (It’s an elementary school, where she is, and a middle school in one big old complex). There have been more than a few jokes about this that I heard over the weekend.
